Health Education and Promotion Opportunities for Students
The World Health Organization defines health promotion as the process of enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health. It moves beyond a focus on individual behavior towards a wide range of social and environmental interventions. At colleges and universities, health promotion serves the core mission of higher education by supporting students and creating healthy learning environments.
Student Health, Wellness and Prevention offers a wide variety of opportunities for students to learn about bystander intervention, health behaviors and opportunities to get involved in educating their peers about these topics.
Bystander Intervention Trainings
Bystander Intervention Trainings educate students on how to identify dangerous or
potentially risky situations.
Stony Brook offers three different trainings for students to learn how they can keep
their
friends and peers safe during situations involving sexual violence, alcohol and other
drugs and mental health.
